About Arclight
Building Stronger Coaches.
Creating Healthier Coaching Environments.
Arclight Coaching and Leadership Development Program is an independent, Canadian multi-sport coaching and leadership development program. We work with coaches, clubs, community and summer camps, schools, and sport organizations to build the skills, knowledge, and confidence that create lasting impact — on and off the field.
What Is Arclight?
Arclight is not a recreation centre, a provincial sport body, or a national federation. It is an independent coaching and leadership development program built on the belief that great coaching is a craft — one that can be taught, refined, and grown at every stage of a career.
The program operates across three pillars: Sport Coaching development for coaches working in specific sports and disciplines; Non-Sport Coaching Development covering leadership, emotional intelligence, youth coaching, and inclusive participation; and, Program and Professional Development for coaches and administrators who design programs, plan activities, and lead teams.
Arclight certifications are independent credentials issued directly by ALCD program. We are not affiliated with, and do not replace, other forms of certifications. Ours are designed to complement existing credentials and provide practical, accessible development pathways for coaches at every level.
Certification pathways for coaches working in archery, equestrian, athletics, climbing, hockey, football, school sport, and more.
Leadership, emotional intelligence, youth coaching, inclusive sport, and risk management — the human side of coaching.
Sport program design, activity planning, nutrition, teaching skills, and camp leadership — the craft of running great programs.
Coaching Philosophy
The values that guide everything we teach and everything we do.
Faith. Fun. Focus.
Belief in the athlete, the process, and the journey. Coaching is an act of trust — trust that the person in front of you is capable of more than they currently believe, and that your job is to help them find it. Faith is not passive. It is the active choice to keep showing up, to keep investing, even when progress is slow or the path is unclear.
Sport should be enjoyable. Not just for athletes — for coaches too. When we lose the joy in what we do, we lose the ability to share it. Fun is not the opposite of serious; it is the environment that makes serious work sustainable. A coach who enjoys their craft creates athletes who love theirs.
Intentional, present, and purposeful coaching. Focus means knowing what matters in this session, with this athlete, on this day — and not getting lost in comparison, perfection, or outcome. It is the discipline to be where you are, fully.
Practice. Patience. Perseverance.
Coaching is a skill, and skills are built through deliberate repetition. Every session, every conversation, every plan is an opportunity to get better. We do not wait to feel ready — we practice our way into readiness. This applies to coaches as much as it does to the athletes they serve.
Development is not linear and it is rarely fast. Patience is the commitment to stay in the process long enough for it to work. It is the ability to hold the long view when the short view is frustrating — and to extend that same grace to the people you are developing.
Growth requires effort that outlasts setbacks. Perseverance is not stubbornness — it is the choice to adapt and keep going. It is what separates coaches who grow from coaches who plateau, and athletes who breakthrough from those who stop short.
"These six values — Faith, Fun, Focus, Practice, Patience, and Perseverance — are not a checklist. They are a lens. They shape how we approach every course, every mentorship conversation, every program we design. They are as relevant in a community club or sport organization as they are in a high performance training centre. They are what we come back to when the work gets hard."
Our Mission
To develop coaches and leaders who are confident, capable, and grounded — coaches who build athletes, programs, and communities that last.
Arclight exists because great coaching changes lives, and great coaching can be taught. We believe every coach — whether they are running their first youth archery session or leading a high performance training environment — deserves access to development that is practical, evidence-informed, and delivered by someone who has actually done the work.
We focus equally on technical coaching knowledge and the human skills that make it land: communication, emotional intelligence, inclusion, planning, and the courage to keep growing. Because the best athletes in the world are shaped by coaches who never stopped learning.
Who We Serve
Arclight works with anyone who coaches, leads, or supports athletes and participants in sport and physical activity.
Coaches working in any sport or discipline at any level — from community recreational programs to competitive and high performance environments.
Staff and coordinators running summer camp programs, school sport programs, and community physical activity initiatives.
Sport clubs, provincial and community organizations looking to develop their coaching staff, improve program quality, or support coach certification.
Leaders working directly with youth in sport, recreation, or community settings who want practical skills in communication, leadership, and youth development.
Coaches and program leaders working with athletes with disabilities, neurodivergent participants, or in adaptive and para sport environments.
Coordinators, directors, and administrators responsible for building, running, and improving sport programs who need practical tools beyond technical coaching knowledge.
About the Program
Arclight is currently led and delivered by one of Canada's most broadly certified independent coach developers.
Arclight was built out of more than two decades of active involvement in Canadian sport coaching, coach development, and sport administration. The program draws on hands-on experience across archery, equestrian, athletics, climbing, school sport, para sport, community football, and hockey — as well as years of work in coach education, evaluation, mentorship, and facilitation.
The credential foundation is extensive: fully certified at the National Master Coach Developer level through Archery Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada, with sport-specific certifications across seven disciplines and a professional development portfolio spanning performance psychology, nutrition, inclusive coaching, conflict management, safe sport, and risk management. Academic preparation includes a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, a Graduate Certificate in Sport and Recreation Management, and leadership credentials from NAIT.
Before operating independently through Arclight, this work was done through the Archery Alberta provincial coaching portfolio, supporting coach education, mentorship, certification delivery, and program development across the province. Arclight represents the next chapter of that work — expanded in scope, multi-sport in focus, and available to coaches, clubs, camps, and organizations across Canada.
In addition to the Arclight program, the lead facilitator also serves as Archery Coach and Master at Birch Bay Ranch summer camp — working directly with over 50 school groups, organizations and youth in a camp environment and bringing that front-line experience back into the development content that Arclight delivers.
